2003 Notes & Anecdotes
The Green Flash
On our return from St. Agnes the boatman stops. We bobble in the water and wait for a green flash (maybe its blue or yellow) when the sun disappears on the horizon. It doesn't happen! |

Thursday early morning - Our time and efforts are dedicated to Peter’s large and heavy frame tent. Carrying it through the heliport main door and lifting it onto the scales beside the check in desk is a feat in itself. However, deciding how to fly it over water soon develops into a major conundrum. “There’s no room.” explains the check in attendant. “Where is Brian?” says the man. “Tea break.” is the reply from behind a half open door. “Get him here.” says the attendant fearing a major problem brewing. By hook and by crook the tent arrives on the Garrison but nothing else apart from a stray pair of shoes. Our next problem is to erect the structure without instructions or Peter's knowledge to guide us. We tip the contents of the bag onto the ground and around 120 steel tubes roll out, some most odd shaped. Many man-hours are spent decoding what fits where. A colour coding is noticed on various pieces. This proves fruitful to a point but not conclusive and a frame suitable for admission for the Turner prize slowly grows. Like a Rubic cube it is turned and twisted until eventually appearing symmetrical and tent shape. The final offering has the appearance of not being quite right and a few pieces of tubular steel remain on the ground. With time pressing the canvas is thrown over and surprisingly fits, suggesting main structure is mostly correct – although a side entrance cannot be used due to a crossbar impeding the way in. The solution is not to use the side door. |
